Window Treatment Buying Guide
Understanding Different Window Treatments
More often than not, the term blinds refers to both blinds and shades. While all different types of blinds and shades serve the same basic function, there are different benefits to each kind.
Mini Blinds
- Aluminum - Aluminum mini blinds are much stronger than vinyl blinds. They are also more energy-efficient compared to vinyl blinds because they reflect the suns rays more effectively leading to cooler rooms in the summer and warmer in the winter months.
- Vinyl - These blinds are easy to clean, unaffected by moisture, and do a good job of blocking light. They aren't as durable or visually appealing as some other choices, but, functionally, they are very sound.
Faux Wood Blinds
- Faux wood blinds are easy to clean and water resistant. With real wood look at a fraction of the price, they offer a high-quality appearance at the fraction of the price of real wood. Most of all, they are extremely durable, making them an excellent choice for units with children and pets.
Vertical Blinds
- Vertical blinds have individual slats that run along a track at the top of the blind. Vertical blinds are the best option for controlling light and providing privacy with a sliding glass door. They are easy to clean, and you can easily replace broken louvers if necessary.
Shades
- Shades also come in many types, materials, and sizes. Unlike blinds, they're made from one piece of material, instead of individual slats. For this reason, they can be adjusted up and down, but not side to side.
Cellular Shades
- Cellular shades, sometimes called honeycomb shades, have a design that provides insulation to windows in addition to improving privacy. These shades are a great way to help units stay cool in the summer and warm in the winter. Cellular shades also provide sound insulation. These are your best bet for efficient window treatments. Our cellular shades are cordless, making them compliant with the new legislation phasing out corded window coverings.
Roller Shades
- Another popular shade option is roller shades. Roller shades are usually made from synthetic or natural fabrics and can be rolled up or down to suit your needs. They work well on narrow windows in just about any room. Roller shades are the most convenient and affordable of all blind varieties, and fit close to the window and give a neat, compact look.
